The Royal Typewriter company started in God-knows-when making what are commonly known today as the "Royal Flatbed". The Royal 1-4 were essentially the same machine with varying carriage widths (The widths increase as the numbers go up).

After the success of the Flatbed, Royal decided to redesign their machine or something idk. This newly design became the basis for all Royal standards to come. The Royal 10 (or, X, as it's known by it's serial number). Royal also delved into the portable typewriter market, releasing the Royal P to compete with other brands such as Remington and Corona. These portables will sometimes come with a special typeface called "Vogue", which is highly sought after by collectors.

Royal discontinue the 10 in 1933. The successor to the 10 is the H, which was only made for one year, 1934. These machines are somewhat rare, as they were made for such a short time. They have plastic side panels instead of glass ones, and manually set tab stops and margins. After 1934, Royal came out with the KHM, which is an improved version of the H. This machine featured a key-set tabulator and Royal's new Magic Margins. Royal portables mostly changed in style, not features. The O was given a redesigned shell that was simpler and painted with gloss black paint.

Their website is https://www.royal.com/. Typewriters under the Royal name still exist, although these are badly-manufactured Olympia Carina II clones built in China, the Royal Epoch.
